Exciting News: Math Lessons Are Here!
I'm super pumped to tell you that I've just finished making a new set of math lessons! They're pretty similar to my phonics lessons, but they're all about math. Right now, I've got Math Volume 1 done, and it's all about Number Sense. My big goal with these lessons is to make sure kids really get the math concepts they're learning.
How are Math Lessons Similar to Phonics Lessons?
Just like we start our phonics lessons with Phonemic Awareness, every math lesson begins with a Counting Routine, Number Talks, and Quick Images. Yep, you heard that right, these are part of EVERY lesson! This way, kids get to play with numbers in their heads and chat about their thoughts.
In my math lessons, we go over things we've learned before, just like in the phonics lessons. Going over things again and again is super important to make sure the stuff we learn sticks!
In my math lessons, I use the Concrete (hands-on), Pictorial (drawing problems), and Abstract (solving the problem on their own) Method (CPA). It's a lot like in my phonics lessons, where kids break down words with word mapping (which lines up with reading science), practice skills, and use everything they've learned to read text.
The final bit is Purposeful Practice, where kids get to try out their new math skills with fun games!
Exciting Math Lesson Bonus: EXIT Tickets
And here's a cool extra - each math lesson ends with an EXIT Ticket. These quick little quizzes help me see if kids have got the lesson, give feedback, and plan what to teach next. They're a great way to make sure nobody gets left behind.
